8/3- CBD Herald: PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald) – The opposition Human Rights Party (HRP) denounced the government Thursday as “useless and irresponsible” for failing to criticize a plan to build an Angkor Wat replica in India.
In the statement, the party said it “strongly opposed” the plan by the Bihar Mahavir Mandir Trust.
“When did the Cambodian government let India build an Angkor Wat replica? How much money did the government get? Did the government study the impact of the new plan?”
On Wednesday, Information Minister Khieu Kanharith shrugged off the proposed Indian project, saying “the real thing is always worth more than a fake” and suggesting that it may boost Indian tourism in Siem Reap.
