Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen yesterday afternoon held a talk with visiting Indonesian Speaker of the House of Representatives and President of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) H.E. Dr. Marzuki Alie at the Peace Palace. H.E. Dr. Marzuki Alie also informed and invited Samdech Techo Hun Sen to attend the AIPA’s 33rd General Assembly scheduled to take place next week, from Sept. 16-22, the assistant said.

In reply, Samdech Techo Hun Sen accepted the invitation and advised the Indonesian ambassador and Cambodian officials to arrange this visit. He also highly valued the bilateral relations between the two countries, stressing that they still have more potentials for cooperation.

Concerning the rice export to Indonesia, the Cambodian prime minister said it should be promoted in the ASEAN framework as it also concerns the food security, said the assistant.

Earlier on the same day, H.E. Dr. Marzuki Alie was received by Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, President of National Assembly of Cambodia. Both sides agreed with the Statement of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers on ASEAN’s Six-Point Principles on the South China Sea and called for a resolution to the issue based on this statement.

H.E. Dr. Marzuki Alie’s visit to Cambodia is part of his six-day visit from Sept. 4 to 9 to Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia, said an AIPA’s press release, adding that the main aim of the visit is to strengthen the relations between the AIPA member countries and to extend the invitation to attend the 33rd General Assembly of AIPA directly to the speaker of each country.

The Government of Japan has provided a total of ¥67,988,403 (approximately US$839,363) to Japan Mine Action Service (JMAS) for the Improving Mine Clearance in Battambang province.

The Grant Contract was signed here on Sept. 6 at the Embassy of Japan by H.E. Kuroki Masafumi, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia and Mr. Tanigawa Yasuyuki, JMAS Resident Representative.

Cambodian Ministry of Tourism and Tourism Institution of Dubai of the United Arab Emirates have signed a memorandum of understanding to boost the first ever tourism sector ties between the two countries.

Cambodian Minister of Tourism H.E. Thong Khon told reporters yesterday at Phnom Penh International Airport upon his return from a working visit in Dubai from Sept. 3 to 6.

The royal government’s deconcentration and decentralization reform requires the sub-national administration at Municipality/Province, District/Khan, and Sangkat/Commune levels to have their own separate budget in 2013, Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Keat Chhon, Minister of Economy and Finance, said in a meeting on Wednesday.

The Provincial and Municipal Departments of Economy and Finance will have higher duty and responsibility to coordinate with line institutions of the ministry as well as with sub-national administration at all levels to ensure that the national budget management and use at sub-national levels are transparent, accountable and highly effective, H.E. Keat Chhon underlined.

For the upcoming two or three years, the royal government and developmental partners will pay their attention to providing financial and technical support to the administration of cities and districts.

Supreme Court Chamber Orders To Declassify Over 1,700 Confidential Documents

AKP Phnom Penh, September 07, 2012 –

The Supreme Court Chamber of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) has ordered to declassify 1,749 documents after completing its review of the classification of the 12,000 plus confidential and strictly confidential documents in the case file of Case 001, according to an ECCC press release dated Thursday.

These records include Democratic Kampuchea-era documents of victims’ “confessions” and biographies, witness statements, transcripts of in camera hearings and rogatory letters, it pointed out.

The reclassification process has been conducted in accordance with the general guidelines the Chamber previously specified and in broad consultation with ECCC offices, with particular input from the Trial and Pre-Trial Chambers, Office of the Co-Prosecutors, Victims Support Section, Witness/Expert Support Unit and Court Management Section, it said.
“Morodak Techo” Olympic Stadium Project To Start Next Year

AKP Phnom Penh, September 07, 2012 –

Cambodia planned to build a new modern sport complex, named “Morodak Techo”, worth around US$100 million to US$200 million, in the north of Phnom Penh to promote the country’s national sports and move forward to host SEA Games in the future, according to local media reports.

At present, a technical group of inter-ministerial committee has been conducting a survey on designing a master plan for the construction project, and the survey is expected to be completed soon, said Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), who told reporters.

The project is expected to be built in 2013, as it is under the initiative of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, he said.

Last year, he said, the Cambodian premier offered a principle to NOCC to cooperate with Phnom Penh City Hall to make a study on construction project of international-standardized sports complex for promoting Cambodian athletes’ competence in international level competition for honor to the nation.

He made known that “Morodak Techo” national Olympic Stadium will be constructed on about 40 percent of total land area, with swimming pool, football field, athlete building, aerobic and combating sport halls, valley and basketball halls, and other sports facilities, and other area will be used for garden park.

He hoped that when completed, Cambodia’s figure will be further promoted on international arena in sports sector, as the country is able to host SEA Games.

Phnom Penh has an Olympic Stadium and another stadium located near Chroy Changvar Bridge in the west, both of them are old and dilapidated, which needed to be repaired.
